James Michael “Mike” Garrett, 71 of Greentop, Missouri passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital in Macon, Missouri surrounded by his wife, a sister in law, and a lifelong friend.

Mike was born February 7, 1948 in Centerville, Iowa to Louis “Mouse” and Mae “Maxine” (Adams) Garrett. On September 3rd, 1995 in Billings, Montana Mike was united in marriage to Debra Jean Botham from Jacksonville, Missouri.
Mike is survived by his loving wife Deb and watchdog Conner of Greentop, Missouri; daughter, Allison Garrett and future son-in-law Joseph McCauley of Kansas City, Missouri, daughter Kelly and family; sons, Christopher Lindley and family, Gregory (Angela) Botham, Zackery Garrett and family; sister, Sue Travis of Spokane, Washington; brother-in-law, Dr. Danny Lewis of Battlefield, Missouri; sisters-in-law, Ruth (Dr. Ronald) Buening of Springfield, Missouri, Pam (Rick) Vestal of Jacksonville, Missouri; multiple grandchildren, nieces and nephews; godson, Josh Elgin; friends, extended family, Ray and Le Harvey, Rick and Melisa Elliot and a grand cat named Thor.
Mike was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Roy (Mary) Garrett; maternal grandparents, Eddie (Gertrude) Adams; father, Louis “Mouse” Garrett; mother, Maxine (Harlan) Johnson; brother-in-law, Ronald Travis, Ray Botham; sister-in-law, Sandra Lewis and his beloved hunting dog Alex.
Mike graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Iowa. He joined the United States Air Force after high school and served two terms during in the Vietnam War. Following his career in the military and service to our country, he worked airport maintenance, was a car salesman, bartender and restaurant manager, car parts manager until later in life when he found his calling as a respiratory therapist. He served as a licensed respiratory therapist for the last twenty-five years. He was known for his upbeat, honest personality and loved by his co-workers and patients.
Mike had a passion for hunting and fishing, not just for the thrill of the sport but also for the time spent with family. He spent his final father’s day surrounded not only by Deb and Alli, but also surrounded by his hunting buddies and generations that he assisted in teaching the love of the sport.
Mike was well known for his five star cooking. Many friends made the trip down the “treacherous” gravel roads, across the state, or even across the country for one of his meals. Many stories were shared, laughs had, and duck farts were drank. But most importantly, But most importantly, love was felt by those around him.
Whether you were in the crowd at one of Alli’s softball games hearing him yell “pretty pitch” when the pitcher threw a strike, one of his patients that he took care of or someone who heard him blaring his favorite classic rock songs, a fellow Denver Broncos, St. Louis Cardinals and Northwest Bearcat fan, or even just someone he met in passing, it is safe to say that he made a wonderful impact on your life.
Visitation is planned for Wednesday, November 20, 2019 from 5:00pm -8:00pm at the Historic Round House in Macon, Missouri.
Inurnment will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, Missouri on Friday November 22, 2019 at 2:00pm.
A Celebration of Life is planned for December 14, 2019 and details will be announced at a later date.
