Obituary for Stephen Dwight Shirley

Sergeant Stephen Dwight Shirley, 41 of Green City, Missouri passed away October 20, 2020. Stephen was born to Rebecca (Ralls) Hamill and Okel Shirley on November 15, 1978 in Milan, Missouri. Stephen graduated from Milan C-2 with the class of 1997.

On February 14th, 2002 he married Stephanie Sharp and of that marriage and of that marriage there were 4 children. On May 19th, 2012 in Novinger, Missouri, Stephen married Karah Kay Shirley of Green Castle, Missouri who survives. Of that union, two children were born. He is survived by 6 children: Mercedes Nikole Spray, Jaylee Rae Green, David Keith Shirley (Stephanie), and Robert Marshall Shirley all of Kirksville Missouri, Danielle Kay Shirley, and Bradley Samuel Shirley of Green Castle, Missouri.

Stephen is also survived by his parents Rebecca (Donald) Hamill of Humphreys, Missouri and Okel Shirley of Trenton, Missouri, Two brothers Isaac Shirley of Reger, Missouri and Charles (Shelly Kitchens) Hayes of Grove, Oklahoma, One sister Jessica (Cody) Holt of Milan, Missouri. Grandmother Pauline Ralls of Humphreys, Missouri and 4 Grandchildren, Hunter Smith, Ruby Spray, Kaia Green, and Vitani Green all of Kirksville, Missouri. Also surviving is his mother and father-in-law Rob and Theo Sizemore of Green Castle, Missouri, two sisters-in-law Sarah (Justin) Dowell of Green City, Missouri, Sabrinna Hatter of Green Castle, Missouri, his special friend Veronica Briggs and children of Green City, Missouri, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Stephen was proceeded in death by his paternal Grandparents, Lawrence and Nola (Hudson) Shirley, Maternal Grandfather Billy E. Ralls, one uncle Phillip Ralls, and two cousins, Shawn Phillip Ralls and Debra Morgan Ralls.

On October 23, 2023, Stephen joined the Army National Guard where he achieved the rank of sergeant (E-5) and was currently serving with the 1438MRBC in Macon Missouri. He was currently employed by Smith Farms and King Farms as a maintenance man and farmhand where he had worked since 2018. Stephen always said he was a jack of all trades but the master of none. From construction, electrical and plumbing to being a father and a family man he did it all and gave his all when doing so. He did not know the word quit and would not let anyone else quit on his watch.

Stephen was a hardworking, fun-loving family man that would do anything to help anyone. He loved with his whole heart and would give the shirt off his back if someone needed it. He loved hunting, fishing, farming, cutting wood, barbequing and was an avid football fan and had a love for the Dallas Cowboys. Stephens love for his country and his brothers and sisters in arms was always something he spoke of very highly of, he volunteered for every State Emergency Duty and deployment serving his country was everything, but above all his love for family came first.

The family wishes to invite you to a celebration of life Saturday, October 24th, at 9:00pm at Legends in Green Castle, Missouri to share memories, have a drink, and sing some karaoke.

The family would also like you to come to the visitation which will be held on Sunday, October 25th from 11:00 am until 2:00pm at A Simplified Funeral Solutions Funeral Home, 355 W Front St, Green Castle, Missouri, service to follow at 2:00pm with graveside services at the Sizemore Family Farm located at 66104 Hwy 6, Green Castle, Missouri.
