Obituary for Donald Wade Hudson
Donald Wade Hudson, 75 of Kirksville, Missouri died January 7, 2021 at Northeast Regional Hospital after a three week battle with Covid-19.
He was born on Sunday, February 18, 1945 the son of John Hudson and Jean Minnix.
Don is survived by his mother, Jean Crawford of Kirksville; daughter, Melissa Hudson of Kirksville; sons, Matt Hudson of Kirksville, and Greg Hudson of Fort Worth, Texas; brother; Richard (Joyce) Hudson of Lake of the Ozarks, MO.; aunt Opal Webster of Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Carrie Hudson, Gena Hudson, Mayci Snyder, Gabriel Gardner, and Cameron Anthony Boomer; brother and sister-in-law, Linda and Allen Caraway of Kirksville; sister-in-law, Janice Talbert of Kirksville along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews, cousins and Izzy, his seven pound puppy.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Karen Sue Hudson; Father John Hudson; stepfather, Harry Crawford; in-laws, Blake and Carrie Talbert and brother-in-law, Roger Talbert.
Spending most of his life in and around Kirksville, he graduated with the class of 1963 and later married Sue Talbert on June 28, 1970. Don never met a stranger- he always had a smile, hug, kiss on the cheek, or story for anyone he met. He was dedicated in his faith, an active member of the Crossing Church in Kirksville and never missed a Sunday attending, either in person or online. He was also dedicated to his family, friends, and careers.
He loved coaching and coached KBSA baseball for 20+ years. He was inducted into the KBSA hall of fame in 2009. Through all his years of coaching, "Coach" gained many friends he has stayed in contact with throughout the years. He was also employed with KCOM and Baldwin's Bizmart before becoming a car salesman for 30+ years, most recently with Kirksville Motor Company. As with coaching, his years as a car salesman, also gained many lifelong friends. After retirement, he enjoyed selling the occasional car to friends and family and driving for Kirksville Motor Company.
When Don was not working or coaching, he enjoyed following his granddaughter, Carrie's, athletic and coaching career, spending time, and loving the littles at his daughter, Melissa's, daycare. He will forever be remembered as “Donnie” by the littles. He also loved spoiling his dog Izzy.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing, fishing and was a St. Louis Cardinals and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
